LAHORE - Veteran Pakistani sports journalist, cricket commentator, and former first-class cricketer Qamar Ahmed has passed away at the age of 88 in Karachi, his family confirmed. He had suffered a heart attack two weeks ago.

A Respected Career in Cricket Journalism

Widely regarded as one of Pakistan’s most respected cricket writers, Qamar Ahmed dedicated decades to documenting the sport’s history and achievements. During his distinguished journalism career, he covered approximately 450 Test matches and more than 600 One-Day Internationals around the world.

Born on October 23, 1937, in Uttar Pradesh, India, he was among the pioneers of cricket journalism in Pakistan and earned widespread admiration for his insightful analysis and distinctive writing style.

Author and Former Cricketer

Qamar Ahmed also authored the autobiography “Far More Than a Game,” chronicling his journey from student life in Hyderabad, Sindh, to becoming an internationally recognized cricket journalist. Before entering journalism, he represented Hyderabad Division in 17 first-class matches as a left-arm spinner.

His passing is being described as the end of an era in cricket journalism, leaving behind a rich legacy that helped preserve the history of the game for future generations.
