SWAP Announces Office-Bearers for 2026-2030 Term

The Sports Writers Association of Punjab (SWAP), a premier representative body of sports journalists in the province, has officially announced its office-bearers and executive council for the term 2026–2030. The newly constituted body combines experienced senior journalists and active media professionals dedicated to promoting sports journalism and the welfare of sports reporters across Punjab.

New Leadership Announced at Lahore Press Club

The announcement was made at the Lahore Press Club, where renowned senior sports journalist Shahid Shaikh was appointed as SWAP Chairman. Veteran sports reporter Sohail Ali will serve as President for the four-year tenure. Shahzad Malik takes on the role of Secretary, while Asher Butt has been appointed as Treasurer.

Commitment to Professional Rights and Ethics

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Shahid Shaikh stated that the association would continue working for the protection of journalists' professional rights, capacity-building initiatives, and the promotion of ethical and responsible sports reporting in Punjab. He emphasized the importance of unity among sports journalists and highlighted the need to adapt to the rapidly changing digital media landscape.

President Sohail Ali remarked that the newly formed body would focus on strengthening relations between sports organizations and media professionals while ensuring opportunities for young and emerging sports journalists. He added that SWAP would actively organize seminars, workshops, media engagement programs, and recognition events aimed at improving professional standards in sports journalism.

Transparency and Welfare Priorities

Secretary Shahzad Malik expressed gratitude to all members for their confidence in the newly elected team and assured that the association would work collectively and transparently for the betterment of the sports media fraternity. He said the association intends to play a constructive role in highlighting sports development, athlete achievements, and grassroots sporting activities throughout Punjab.

Treasurer Asher Butt emphasized that financial transparency, institutional stability, and member welfare would remain among the top priorities during the 2026–2030 term. He stressed that the association would strive to strengthen its financial structure to effectively organize professional activities, journalist support programs, and training initiatives for sports reporters across Punjab. He further stated that efforts would be made to ensure proper management of the association's resources while promoting unity, cooperation, and active participation among members of the sports media fraternity.

Executive Council and Future Plans

The newly announced executive council members reiterated their commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance professional cooperation, media freedom, and welfare opportunities for sports journalists. SWAP has long been regarded as an important platform for sports journalists, contributing significantly to the coverage and promotion of sports activities in the province. The new leadership is expected to continue this tradition while introducing fresh ideas and modern approaches to sports media engagement during the 2026–2030 tenure.

The other elected and selected office-bearers include: Farrukh Ata Butt as Senior Vice President, Amir Raza Khan as Vice President, Shahzad Malik as Secretary, Hafiz Shahbaz Ali as Joint Secretary, Asher Butt as Treasurer, and Azhar Masood as Information Secretary. The Executive Council for the 2026–2030 term comprises the following members: Sarfraz Ahmed, Rafiq Khan, Ms. Muna Rana, Rana Azar Noor, Taqweem e Millat, Akhlaq Aslam, Fawad Asghar, Rana Zahid, and Mohammad Waqas.
