LAHORE - Preparations for a major international women's tennis tournament have gained momentum, with Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) President Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Director General Sports Punjab Muhammad Tariq Qureshi reviewing arrangements at the Nishtar Park Sports Complex on Wednesday. The event, expected to be held in Lahore and Islamabad in the coming months, is likely to attract leading female tennis players from several countries, marking another important step in Pakistan's efforts to revive international sporting activity.
Facility Inspection and Readiness
During their visit, the officials inspected the tennis stadium and open courts, assessing the readiness of facilities and ongoing preparations. The tournament is being viewed as a significant opportunity to showcase Pakistan's capability to host international-standard sporting events. Speaking on the occasion, Aisam-ul-Haq expressed satisfaction with the progress of preparations and said Lahore has the potential to emerge as a prominent destination for international women's tennis. He also appreciated the efforts of the Sports Board Punjab in promoting the game and upgrading sports infrastructure.
Government Support and Future Plans
DG Sports Punjab Muhammad Tariq Qureshi said hosting international competitions would not only help develop sports in the country but also strengthen Pakistan's image on the global stage. “All available resources are being utilised to ensure the successful staging of the tournament,” he said. He further revealed that preparations are also underway for the launch of Sports Board Punjab’s 19 sports academies, where young athletes will receive professional training in various disciplines to help nurture future sporting talent across the province.
