Mandatory AI Course Approved for Government Universities

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has approved the introduction of a compulsory three-credit hour course on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in all government universities across the country. This landmark decision aims to equip students with future technology and digital skills.

Course Modules Approved

The Information Technology University (ITU) Lahore has prepared three proposed modules for the AI course. These course outlines were formally approved during the 45th session of the HEC. The move follows an advisory from the HEC and was also endorsed in a consultative meeting of university vice chancellors.

Implementation Plan

Under the new policy, instructions have been issued to all public sector universities to include the course titled “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence” in the curriculum of relevant degree programs. The implementation will be carried out in a phased manner. Universities are required to immediately integrate the course into their curricula as per HEC policy.
