Pakistan Launches AI Seekho 2026: Nationwide AI Upskilling Program for Youth
The government of Pakistan has officially launched a comprehensive nationwide upskilling initiative called AI Seekho 2026, designed to train the country's young population in artificial intelligence and provide them with substantial economic opportunities. This announcement was made by state-run media on Monday, marking a significant step in Pakistan's digital transformation efforts.
Strategic Partnerships and Program Details
The program is being implemented through a collaboration between Pakistan's Ministry of Information Technology and key industry partners including Google for Developers, Telenor Pakistan, and leading IT firm Innovista. According to Radio Pakistan, the state broadcaster, this initiative will introduce participants to innovative coding techniques, particularly vibe coding, which involves prompting AI tools to generate code rather than writing it manually.
Participants will gain hands-on experience using advanced tools such as Google AI Studio and Antigravity. The program is structured to connect trainees with various economic platforms including:
- National Incubation Centers
- Pakistan Startup Fund
- Global digital platforms
Government Targets and Vision
IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja has articulated ambitious goals for the program, stating that the government aims to train over one million people in artificial intelligence technologies. Specifically, through the AI Seekho program with Google's support, the ministry has set a target to upskill more than 100,000 developers.
Minister Khawaja emphasized the inclusive nature of this technological push, noting in a video statement: "Artificial intelligence and technology today is not just for the tech people; it is equally important for the non-tech community." This statement underscores the government's commitment to making AI education accessible across various sectors of society.
Broader AI Strategy and Investments
This upskilling program represents a key component of Pakistan's broader artificial intelligence strategy. In February, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the government would invest $1 billion in AI by 2030 to modernize the country's digital economy. This substantial financial commitment demonstrates Pakistan's serious approach to technological advancement.
The launch follows several other significant AI initiatives undertaken by Pakistan in recent years:
- Approval of the National AI Policy in July of the previous year
- Launch of the country's sovereign AI cloud infrastructure
- Establishment of a dedicated startup fund to support AI-driven enterprises
These coordinated efforts position Pakistan to potentially become a regional leader in artificial intelligence development and implementation, creating new economic pathways for its substantial youth population while addressing the growing demand for AI skills in the global marketplace.
