KP Chief Minister Unveils Digital Policing Package
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Thursday launched a comprehensive package of digital policing initiatives, including an online FIR registration system, a global police services application, and an integrated complaints management platform. These initiatives aim to improve public access to police services and were unveiled during a ceremony at the Central Police Office in Peshawar.
Key Features of the Digital Policing Package
The Police Sahulat Markaz (PSM) Global App provides access to 24 police services through a single digital platform, designed to facilitate overseas Pakistanis and citizens residing outside the province by enabling remote access to police services.
A Kinetic Police Action Dashboard has been established to strengthen operational oversight, facilitate real-time monitoring, and improve decision-making across the police force. A dedicated mobile application, KPCOP, has also been launched to enhance field supervision and performance management.
Online FIR Registration and Complaints Management
A major component of the reforms is the introduction of an online FIR registration system, allowing citizens to lodge First Information Reports and obtain relevant documents without visiting police stations. The government has also introduced an Online Complaints Management System through which complaints can be submitted via a toll-free helpline, WhatsApp, SMS, Facebook, and other digital channels.
A dedicated missing persons portal, Talash-e-Gumshuda, has been launched to support efforts to trace and recover missing children. Specialised digital complaint platforms have also been established for victims of gender-based violence as well as members of transgender and minority communities.
Emergency Response and Online Services
To strengthen emergency response services, a “Pink Button” feature has been introduced to provide rapid assistance, particularly to women and children during emergencies. Citizens will further be able to apply online for police character certificates, clearance certificates, and driving licence-related services through systems incorporating biometric verification and digital payment facilities. Online verification mechanisms for driving licences, traffic challans, and other official documents have also been introduced.
Chief Minister’s Remarks
Addressing the ceremony, the chief minister said the reforms were intended to improve access to police services, enhance service delivery, and make interactions between citizens and law enforcement agencies more convenient and transparent. He directed the relevant authorities to launch a public awareness campaign to ensure widespread understanding and effective use of the new digital services.
Provincial Minister for Information Shafi Jan, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Home and Tribal Affairs Tariq Saeed, Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed, Principal Secretary Amir Sultan Tareen, and other senior officials attended the event. Earlier, upon his arrival at the Central Police Office, the chief minister was presented with a guard of honour by a police contingent. He also laid a floral wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial and offered Fateha for police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
