KU Welcomes Ufone as Connectivity Partner to Boost Digital Campus
A delegation from Ufone, one of Pakistan's leading cellular companies, visited the University of Karachi (KU) on Wednesday to explore collaboration opportunities. The KU hosted a high-profile delegation from the Ufone and PTCL Group, aiming to enhance digital connectivity and facilities for researchers, students, faculty, and staff.
During the visit, the delegation met with the KU administration and presented proposals to support the university community through improved digital infrastructure. Both sides mutually agreed to move forward with the proposals and decided to formalize the partnership through a memorandum of understanding in the coming weeks.
The KU management welcomed the initiative, acknowledging the importance of industry–academia linkages in empowering students, strengthening research, and transforming the campus into a digitally connected hub. With this decision, the University of Karachi has taken another step toward fostering innovation and collaboration by welcoming Ufone as a connectivity partner.
Vice Chancellor Highlights Importance of Partnerships
Speaking on the occasion, KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi highlighted the importance of such partnerships in bridging the gap between academic learning and industry practices. “By working closely with technology providers, we can empower our students with practical exposure, enhance research capabilities, and transform the campus into a hub of digital innovation,” he said.

Special Facilities for KU Community
In addition to acting as a connectivity partner, Ufone announced plans to introduce special facilities for KU students, faculty, employees, and staff. The details of these offerings, including subsidized tariffs, will be shared in the coming weeks when both parties sign a memorandum of understanding.
KU's Director of Evening Programs, Professor Dr. Shabib Ul Hassan, the focal person for this initiative, expressed that this collaboration underscores the shared vision of KU and its industry partners: to equip students with the skills and resources needed for the future while simultaneously strengthening the university’s role as a center of excellence in research, education, and innovation.
