HEC Rejects Database Breach Claims as Baseless

Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission (HEC) has categorically rejected reports circulating on social media regarding an alleged security breach of its database, describing the claims as baseless and misleading. In an official statement, the HEC said that an immediate investigation carried out by its Cyber Security Operations Centre found no evidence of any compromise to its Degree Attestation System.

According to the commission, the sample records being shared online as purported leaked data were not linked to the HEC’s degree attestation or verification databases. The HEC emphasized that its degree verification records remain secure and that claims of a data breach are unfounded.

The commission also urged the public to avoid sharing unverified and inaccurate information, warning that such reports can create unnecessary confusion and misinformation. The HEC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of cybersecurity to protect sensitive data.
