Tesla Recalls Model Ys Over Missing Weight Sticker

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a recall for 14,575 Tesla Model Y vehicles due to a missing label, an issue that cannot be resolved through the automaker's usual over-the-air software updates. According to the recall report, the affected vehicles were manufactured between November 17th, 2024 and April 21st, 2026, and may lack a weight certification sticker as a result of a malfunction in an automated vision-scanning tool at Tesla's Fremont, California factory.

Details of the Recall

As reported by Electrek, the missing sticker is typically placed on the inside of the driver's side door. It displays the vehicle's maximum safe loaded weight, tire information, and the manufacture date. While many drivers may not notice these stickers, they are crucial for safe loading, as exceeding the maximum weight can pose safety risks. The sticker also serves as a convenient reference for checking proper tire pressure.

Extent of the Issue

Tesla estimates that only 45 percent of the recalled Model Y vehicles are actually missing the sticker. The company has since fixed the automated scanning tool that caused the problem, and production teams are now manually verifying that each vehicle has the sticker before leaving the factory.

Unlike most Tesla recalls, which can be addressed remotely via software updates, this recall requires owners to physically bring their Model Ys to a service center for inspection. Technicians will check for the presence of the sticker and install one if it is missing. Fortunately, this recall does not involve any risk of mechanical failure, such as wheels detaching.
