Delegation Explores Joint Research and Innovation
A high-level delegation from the School of Biomedical Engineering and Health at Wuhan Textile University (WTU), China, visited the National University of Technology (NUTECH) in Islamabad yesterday to explore new avenues of academic cooperation, scientific research, and technology transfer. The visit reflects the growing momentum in Pakistan-China collaboration in higher education and innovation.
The visiting delegation was led by Professor Dr. Zhaowei Zhang, Dean of the School of Biomedical Engineering and Health at WTU, and included Dr. Tang Yun, Dr. Zareen Zuhra, and Dr. Wajid Hussain, all associate professors. The delegation also featured Prof. Dr. Mohammad Akmal, Chairman of the Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF); Dr. Mirza Habib Ali, Member Science, PSF; Ms. Zaiban Farooq, Principal Scientific Officer (International Linkages), PSF; and Raja Abdul Rehman, Deputy Director, PSF.
NUTECH Showcases Academic and Research Infrastructure
During the visit, the Chinese delegation received a comprehensive briefing on NUTECH’s academic programmes, advanced research infrastructure, and initiatives aimed at fostering technological innovation, applied research, and stronger industry-academia linkages. University officials highlighted NUTECH’s efforts to equip students with cutting-edge technical skills while promoting innovation-driven education aligned with international standards.
A key feature of the visit was the presentation of the Magic QC Machine, an innovative quality control solution developed to improve operational efficiency, enhance product quality, and support Pakistan’s textile industry in meeting international standards and boosting export competitiveness.
Discussions on Institutional Partnerships
The two sides held extensive discussions on strengthening institutional partnerships through joint research initiatives, faculty and student exchanges, capacity building, technology transfer, and international academic networking. They also explored opportunities for collaborative projects in biomedical engineering and emerging technologies that could contribute to scientific advancement and industrial development in both countries.
The delegation toured several of NUTECH’s flagship facilities, including its state-of-the-art research laboratories, the NUTECH Skills and Development Department (NSDD), the NUTECH Innovation Centre (NIC), and the NUTECH Entrepreneur and Incubation Centre (NEIC). At these facilities, they were briefed on the university’s innovation ecosystem and entrepreneurship programmes.
Commitment to Expanding Bilateral Cooperation
The visit underscored the shared commitment of NUTECH and WTU to expanding Pakistan-China academic and scientific cooperation through sustained knowledge exchange, collaborative research, and innovation. Both institutions reaffirmed their resolve to work together in developing globally competitive graduates, advancing biomedical engineering research, and promoting technological solutions that address regional and global challenges, further strengthening educational ties between Pakistan and China.
