KP Govt to Set Up Computerised Centres for Car Dealers

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to establish computerised facilitation centres for car dealers and showroom owners at district offices of the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department across the province. This initiative aims to improve transparency, streamline vehicle transactions, and modernise public services.

Announcement by Provincial Minister

The decision was announced by Provincial Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Syed Fakhar Jehan during a meeting with a delegation of representatives from the automobile trade. The delegation included Haji Bakhtmir Jan, Chairman of the All Pakistan Car Dealers’ Association of Small Traders, Maazullah Khan, the association’s General Secretary, and Ghulam Bilal, Chairman of the All Pakistan Car Dealers and Importers Association (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa).

Key Discussions

The meeting addressed issues affecting car dealers and showroom owners, matters relating to the Excise Department, and proposals to facilitate the automobile trade. The delegation urged the provincial government to introduce stronger mechanisms to enhance transparency in vehicle transactions, consider tax relief for the sector, and extend greater institutional support to the automobile trade.

Features of the Facilitation Centres

Syed Fakhar Jehan said the new computerised facilitation centres would enable dealers and showroom owners to verify vehicle ownership, registration details, chassis numbers, and other official records under one roof, making transactions more efficient and transparent. He added that dealers would be provided dedicated online access through a specialised software platform, allowing them to instantly verify the complete history and particulars of vehicles before purchase, thereby reducing the risk of fraudulent transactions.

Commitment to Reform

The minister said the Excise Department remained committed to delivering efficient, transparent, and technology-driven public services. He noted that the procedure for obtaining personalised registration plates had been simplified following the provincial cabinet’s approval of the relevant legislation. The initiative would also allow showroom owners and car dealers to obtain personalised registration plates bearing the names of their businesses or brands.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to institutional reform, the minister said the Excise Department was being transformed into a modern, service-oriented organisation to improve public service delivery and facilitate the business community. He assured members of the automobile trade that their genuine concerns would be addressed on a priority basis and encouraged them to approach Excise and Taxation offices whenever assistance was required.

Positive Response

The delegation welcomed the reforms and appreciated the department’s efforts to improve services and facilitate the automobile trade.
