KP Minister Reviews Rural Investment Project with World Bank

Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Public Health Engineering (PHE), Fazal Shakoor Khan, chaired a high-level review meeting on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rural Investment and Institutional Support Project (KP-RIISP) on Wednesday at the committee room of the PHE department. The meeting was attended virtually by Mr. Carlo Amedi, Consultant to the World Bank, while Secretary PHE Department Masood Younas, Project Director Adnan Ahmad, and other relevant officials were also present.

Comprehensive Briefing on Project Progress

During the meeting, participants were given a comprehensive briefing on the progress of the KP-RIISP. The briefing covered the project’s various components, ongoing development activities, achievements to date, financial progress, implementation status, and future targets. Participants were informed that multiple projects are currently underway under the initiative to provide safe drinking water, sanitation, drainage systems, and other essential civic services in the merged districts, with their timely completion remaining a top priority of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.

World Bank Reaffirms Support

Speaking on the occasion, Carlo reaffirmed the World Bank’s continued commitment to providing full technical and institutional support for the successful implementation and completion of the KP-RIISP. Fazal Shakoor Khan expressed his gratitude to the World Bank for its continued cooperation and said that the KP-RIISP is a landmark public welfare initiative for the merged districts. He said the project would significantly improve access to safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, and other basic services, benefiting millions of people.

Government's Commitment to Quality Services

He said that, in line with the vision of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is committed to ensuring the provision of quality basic services in both urban and rural areas through effective and sustainable development initiatives. He directed the concerned officials to ensure continuous monitoring of all project components, remove implementation bottlenecks without delay, and complete all schemes within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining the highest standards of quality so that the public can benefit from these projects at the earliest.

Future Cooperation with World Bank

The minister announced that he would meet the World Bank Country Director next month to discuss the project’s progress and further strengthen cooperation between the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the World Bank.
