A significant meeting on population welfare was convened in Peshawar on Tuesday, chaired by Tufail Anjum, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister (SACM) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Population Welfare. The session brought together key officials including Secretary of the Population Welfare Department Anila Durrani, Director General Abdullah, Technical Director Afrana Basit, and representatives of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
Detailed Briefing on UNFPA Programmes
During the meeting, the SACM received a comprehensive briefing on UNFPA’s ongoing programmes in the province, the technical and advisory support extended to the Population Welfare Department, and the future roadmap for collaboration. UNFPA representatives reaffirmed their commitment to continuing technical cooperation and advisory support, underscoring the importance of sustained partnership in advancing population welfare goals.
Government’s Commitment to Reforms
Speaking on the occasion, SACM Tufail Anjum stated that the government is taking effective measures to promote balanced population growth, strengthen family planning initiatives, and improve the delivery of population welfare services. He announced that comprehensive reforms would be introduced to further enhance the performance and institutional capacity of the Population Welfare Department, enabling it to provide better services to the public.
Anjum emphasized that, in line with the vision of the KP Chief Minister, ensuring that the benefits of good governance reach the people remains the government’s top priority. All available resources will be utilized to achieve this objective, he added.
Zero Tolerance for Corruption
The SACM stressed that transparency, merit, and accountability would be upheld at every level of the department. A zero-tolerance policy against corruption would be strictly enforced, ensuring that public funds are used effectively and that the department operates with integrity.
The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to strengthen population welfare services through collaborative efforts between the provincial government and UNFPA, aiming to improve the quality of life for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
