PESHAWAR – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Tourism, Malik Adil Iqbal, has directed authorities to take immediate action against illegal construction in Galiyat, warning that no unauthorized development would be permitted in the hill resort.
Strict Enforcement of Court Directives
During a visit to Galiyat, accompanied by Director General of the Galiyat Development Authority Muhammad Fawad, Director General Tourism Shahid Khan and other officials, Malik Adil stated that construction in the area remains prohibited under court directives and that these restrictions would be enforced without exception. He warned that strict action would be taken against anyone involved in illegal construction and urged the public to report activities that could damage the area’s natural environment.
New Office to Address Tourism Issues
The special assistant also announced his intention to establish an office in Galiyat to facilitate the prompt resolution of tourism-related issues and improve coordination with the local administration. This move aims to streamline decision-making and enhance visitor experiences.
Ayubia Chairlift Restoration and Oversight
During his visit to the Ayubia Chairlift, Malik Adil said all necessary measures for its restoration had been completed and that the facility would become operational soon. He added that Chief Minister Sohail Afridi had been closely overseeing the restoration process through a series of meetings with relevant stakeholders.
Infrastructure Projects Inaugurated
The minister later inaugurated the 700-metre Dunga Gali Town Road. Officials informed him that the Galiyat Development Authority had completed resurfacing the road leading to the Mushkpuri Track, improving access for tourists and local residents. He also inaugurated the Nathia Gali Sewerage System Project. According to officials, the provincial government-funded scheme is scheduled for completion within the current year and will include 11 wastewater treatment plants. The project is designed to collect and treat wastewater from hotels in six towns of Galiyat before its disposal in accordance with environmental standards.
Tourist Complaint Helpline Promoted
During his visit to the Dunga Gali Tourist Facilitation Centre, Malik Adil directed the Tourism Department to display the tourist complaint helpline prominently to enable visitors to seek assistance more easily. This step is part of broader efforts to enhance service quality and accountability in the tourism sector.
