Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi and Pakistan fast-bowling star Shaheen Shah Afridi have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting sports and creating greater opportunities for young athletes across the province. During a meeting at Afridi’s residence, the two discussed a wide range of initiatives aimed at strengthening sports infrastructure, encouraging youth participation in healthy activities, and identifying emerging talent through structured competitions.
Kundi Praises Afridi’s Contributions
Governor Kundi praised Afridi’s outstanding contributions to Pakistan cricket and expressed confidence in his continued success on the international stage. He emphasized that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa possesses immense sporting talent and requires sustained investment in facilities and development programs to help young athletes realize their potential.
KP Champion League Plans
The meeting also focused on plans for the proposed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Champion League, a project designed to provide a competitive platform for aspiring players and create pathways to national and international recognition. Sohail Kundi, Chief Executive Officer of the league, also attended the discussion. Both sides reviewed proposals aimed at expanding sports activities throughout the province, including improving cricket infrastructure in Peshawar and upgrading facilities at Abbottabad Stadium.

Governor Kundi stressed that sports play a vital role in steering young people toward constructive pursuits while fostering a positive image of the province. Shaheen Afridi underscored the importance of promoting sports at every level, noting that accessible facilities and regular competitions are essential to keeping youth engaged in healthy activities and away from negative influences. He welcomed the provincial government’s efforts to strengthen cricket and other sports, expressing optimism that such initiatives would help Pakistan produce the next generation of elite athletes.
