Pakistan Customs has officially notified a new off-dock terminal at Hawksbay, Karachi, aimed at improving cargo handling and facilitating international trade. The facility will be operated by International Cargo Terminals Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd, a subsidiary of Denmark-based Scan-Group.
Announcement Ceremony
The announcement was made during a ceremony in Islamabad attended by Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik, Danish Ambassador Maja Derrous Mortensen, senior customs officials, and representatives of the operating company.
Key Statements
Speaking at the event, Member Customs (Operations) Syed Shakeel Shah said the terminal marks an important step in modernizing Pakistan’s logistics infrastructure. He noted that the facility would increase cargo handling capacity, reduce port congestion, speed up customs clearance, and improve the efficiency of trade operations.
Shah reaffirmed Pakistan Customs’ commitment to facilitating legitimate trade, attracting investment, and developing modern logistics infrastructure to support economic growth. He highlighted that Pakistan’s economy remains resilient, with literacy rising to 63% and GDP reaching $452 billion.
Industry Support
Representatives of International Cargo Terminals Pakistan thanked the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), and Pakistan Customs for their support in establishing the technology-driven facility, which is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s trade and port operations.
The new terminal is anticipated to enhance cargo handling capacity significantly, reduce congestion at existing ports, and streamline customs clearance processes, ultimately boosting trade efficiency and economic growth.
