The first Explosive Detection System (EDS) in Pakistan has been installed and formally inaugurated at the Cargo Terminal of Sialkot International Airport Limited (SIAL), marking a landmark development for the country’s aviation and export sectors. The state-of-the-art system strengthens cargo security, enhances operational efficiency, and facilitates exports in line with international standards.
Inauguration Ceremony Details
A formal inauguration ceremony was held at the SIAL Cargo Terminal, where the EDS machine was jointly inaugurated by Chairman SIAL Hassan Ali Bhatti and Chairman Export Development Fund (EDF) Omer Saeed. The event was attended by SIAL Vice Chairman Waqas Afzal, esteemed members of the Board of Directors, CEO SIAL AVM Tanweer Ashraf Bhatti (R), and other distinguished officials.
Speaking on the occasion, SIAL Chairman Hassan Ali Bhatti termed the installation of the EDS machine a matter of immense pride and honor for Sialkot International Airport. He highlighted the longstanding partnership between SIAL and EDF, noting that both organisations had been working closely since 2007 and that the inauguration was a shared achievement. “Today’s celebration is mutual as the Export Development Fund has always extended its valuable support to SIAL,” he added. “The installation of this advanced EDS machine is another testament to our strong collaboration and shared commitment towards facilitating Pakistan’s exports,” he remarked.
Technical Capabilities and Impact
The chairman further informed participants that the EDS machine possesses the capability to scan up to 1,800 bags per hour, significantly improving the speed and efficiency of cargo handling operations. He noted that the system would ensure the swift movement of export consignments while strengthening security protocols. “The installation of this machine reflects our commitment to providing reliable, efficient, time-bound, and internationally compliant cargo services. It sends a strong message to the global market that exports from Pakistan meet the highest standards of security and operational excellence,” he added.
