PMD Predicts Rain and Thunderstorms Across Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain, windstorms, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms across various parts of the country over the next 24 hours. The weather department has cautioned that strong winds, lightning strikes, and hail may cause damage to vulnerable infrastructure, including solar panels, electricity poles, and billboards.

Regional Weather Predictions

According to the PMD, rain accompanied by windstorms and thunderstorms is expected at isolated locations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, upper Sindh, and northern and northeastern areas of Balochistan. Heavy rainfall is also likely in some parts of northeastern Balochistan and southern Punjab, while the rest of the country is expected to experience mainly hot and dry weather.

Islamabad and Surroundings

In Islamabad and nearby areas, partly cloudy conditions with rain and thunderstorms are expected.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, scattered rain, windstorms, thunderstorms, and isolated heavy showers with hail are likely in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Mohmand, Khyber, Waziristan, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Hangu, and Kurram.

Punjab

In Punjab, rain combined with dust storms, thunderstorms, isolated heavy downpours, and hailstorms is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Pakpattan, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Noorpur Thal, Bhakkar, Layyah, Mianwali, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and Kot Addu.

Sindh

Most areas of Sindh are likely to remain hot and dry. However, partly cloudy weather with isolated rain and thunderstorms is expected in Kashmore, Jacobabad, Sukkur, Ghotki, Shikarpur, Larkana, and Dadu. Karachi and surrounding areas may also receive light rain accompanied by gusty winds.

Balochistan

In Balochistan, mainly hot and dry conditions are expected, though isolated rain and thunderstorms may occur in Zhob, Sherani, Musa Khel, Kohlu, Naseerabad, Qila Saifullah, Qila Abdullah, Harnai, Sibi, Barkhan, Khuzdar, and Dera Bugti.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan

Partly cloudy weather with rain and thunderstorms is also forecast for Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, where isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms are likely in some areas of Kashmir.

Advisory and Precautions

The PMD has advised the public to remain cautious, warning that strong winds, hail, and lightning could damage weak structures and create hazardous conditions during the forecast period.
