Punjab Drains: 41km New, 13km Rehabilitated

Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique chaired a review meeting of the Punjab Development Programme, focusing on drainage infrastructure. He announced that construction work on 41 kilometres of new drains is currently underway, while 13 kilometres of existing drains have been rehabilitated and restored.

Underground Water Tanks

The minister instructed officials to ensure that underground water tanks are connected to the newly built drainage network. “All water tanks would have a capacity to store 55 million gallons of water,” he said. He explained that any excess water collected in the underground reservoirs would be discharged into the drains.

Pre-Monsoon Preparations

Zeeshan Rafique also directed municipal authorities to submit reports regarding the cleaning and maintenance of infrastructure drains. The minister stressed the importance of completing de-silting and drainage-cleaning operations before the monsoon season to improve water management and reduce the risk of urban flooding.
