Punjab Govt Declares Holidays on 9th, 10th Muharram

The government of Punjab has officially declared public holidays on the 9th and 10th of Muharram 1448 A.H., corresponding to June 25 and 26, 2026, across the province in observance of Ashura. This decision was communicated through a notification issued by the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD).

Scope of the Holiday Notification

According to the notification, the holidays will be observed by all provincial government offices operating under both five-day and six-day working week schedules. This ensures uniform application across different administrative setups within the province.

Purpose and Religious Significance

The notification stated that the decision has been taken to facilitate the observance of Muharram and related religious activities across Punjab. The 9th and 10th of Muharram, known as Ashura, hold deep religious significance for Muslims, particularly in commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions at Karbala.
