Punjab Police have intensified their province-wide crackdown against violations of the Anti-Kite Flying Act, arresting 9,813 people and registering 9,445 cases during the current year, a police spokesperson said on Thursday.
Seizures and Arrests Across Punjab
According to the spokesperson, police also recovered 472,296 kites and 14,833 string reels during operations conducted across Punjab, including Lahore. In the provincial capital alone, police arrested 4,575 suspects and registered 4,405 cases for violating the anti-kite flying law. During the operations, 121,630 kites and 4,723 string reels were seized.
IGP Directives and Strict Action
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem directed all field formations to continue indiscriminate legal action against those involved in kite flying, saying the dangerous activity would not be tolerated anywhere in the province. The IGP also ordered strict action against individuals involved in the online sale and trade of kites and metallic string, stressing that all those facilitating the illegal business should be brought to justice.
Appeal to Parents and Public
Appealing to parents, Abdul Kareem urged them to keep their children away from the hazardous activity. He also asked citizens to report incidents of kite flying through the Police Helpline 15 to help ensure effective enforcement of the law.
