Deputy Commissioner Khalid Javed Goraya and District Police Officer Tasawur Iqbal led a series of meetings and inspections across Vehari district, resulting in a reduction of public transport fares by up to 18 percent, a review of flood preparedness measures, and enhanced security arrangements for Muharram.
Public Transport Fare Reduction
Chairing a meeting on transport fares, the Deputy Commissioner announced a 15 to 18 percent reduction in public transport fares and a 20 percent cut in goods transport charges, following the decrease in fuel prices. He directed transporters to implement the revised fare lists immediately to provide relief to the public.
Flood Preparedness Review
At a meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Khalid Javed Goraya reviewed monsoon and flood preparedness and directed all departments to keep machinery, equipment and manpower ready. He stressed improving drainage systems, activating flood warning mechanisms, conducting mock exercises and ensuring timely completion of embankment repairs and sewerage cleaning.
Muharram Security Arrangements
Later, the Deputy Commissioner and DPO Tasawur Iqbal visited the District Control Room to review live monitoring of Muharram processions. The Deputy Commissioner said that routes were being monitored through CCTV cameras and a modern surveillance system, while DPO Tasawur Iqbal stated that all security arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram had been finalized to ensure peaceful observance of the occasion.
