FAISALABAD: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has completed extensive preparations to tackle the upcoming monsoon season, with major drainage and infrastructure projects nearing completion, Managing Director Saqib Raza said while speaking to media representatives.
Ground Storage Tanks to Enhance Rainwater Management
Raza stated that work on four major ground storage tanks was progressing rapidly and would be completed by June 30. These projects are aimed at improving the city's capacity to manage rainwater during the monsoon season, which is expected to begin in July. "We are confident that after the completion of these storage tanks, we will be in a much better position to handle rainwater and reduce urban flooding," he said.
Desilting and Short-Term Solutions Implemented
The WASA chief said the agency had undertaken intensive desilting of roadside drains across the city and implemented short-term solutions at identified waterlogging hotspots. All necessary machinery had been rehabilitated and deployed, while disposal stations were fully operational.
Emergency Camps and Staff Deployment
According to Raza, monsoon emergency camps have been established throughout the city, and staff members have been assigned duties to ensure a prompt response during heavy rainfall. These measures are part of WASA's comprehensive strategy to mitigate the impact of monsoon rains and protect residents from urban flooding.
