Arrest Made in Corruption Crackdown

Rawalpindi's Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) arrested an assistant manager of Pirwadhai Bus Terminal on Thursday on charges of accepting a bribe from a transporter. The operation was conducted under the directives of ACE Regional Director Rawalpindi Khalid Masood Farooqa.

The accused, Tipu Sultan, who served as assistant manager and data supervisor at the terminal, was apprehended by an ACE team accompanied by a judicial magistrate. The team recovered marked currency notes from his possession, confirming the bribe transaction.

Details of the Bribery Incident

The complainant, Khaqan Jameel, alleged that Tipu Sultan initially demanded and received Rs100,000 as a bribe to allocate bus parking space in the busy terminal. After completing procedural formalities, the raiding team arrested the official with the bribe money.

According to ACE officials, the arrest was made under Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947 (PCA), which addresses criminal misconduct by public servants, and Section 161 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which pertains to bribery and corruption committed by public officials.

Legal Proceedings Underway

The case has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing. The ACE Rawalpindi chapter has reiterated its commitment to eradicating corruption, particularly in public service roles where citizens face extortion. This arrest is part of a broader crackdown on bribery in Rawalpindi's transport sector.
