Zardari Urges Nation to Draw Inspiration from Karbala

President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday urged the nation to draw inspiration from the timeless lessons of Karbala, saying the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) teaches Muslims to uphold truth, justice, patience and moral courage in the face of oppression.

Message on Youm-i-Ashur

In his message on the occasion of Youm-i-Ashur (10th Muharram 1448 AH), the president said Ashura is one of the most significant days in Islamic history, reminding believers of the values of perseverance, sacrifice, truthfulness and steadfastness. He said that while Ashura is associated with several important events in Islamic history, its most enduring significance lies in the supreme sacrifice made by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), along with members of the Ahl-e-Bait and their loyal companions on the plains of Karbala in 61 AH.

Karbala as a Lasting Lesson

Describing Karbala as more than a historical event, President Zardari said it remains a lasting lesson for humanity, demonstrating that every sacrifice can be made to protect truth, justice, integrity and human dignity, but falsehood, tyranny and oppression should never be accepted. He said the struggle of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) was aimed at the reform of the Muslim Ummah and the preservation of the true teachings and values of Islam.

Call for Unity and Peace

The president called on the nation to adopt the principles of righteousness, moral courage, patience, selflessness and service to humanity in both individual and collective life. He also urged citizens to promote peace, tolerance, sectarian harmony and brotherhood during Ashura, while advising them to avoid rumours and provocative behaviour and contribute to strengthening national unity and solidarity.

Praying for the country and the Muslim Ummah, President Zardari expressed hope that Allah Almighty would grant people the wisdom to understand the true message of Karbala and guide them to lead their lives according to the principles of truth, justice, patience and piety.
