Rawalpindi police have arrested a man accused of murdering his elder brother with an axe during a domestic dispute over a mobile phone charger in Dhoke Syedan. The incident occurred on the night of June 20, and the suspect, Muhammad Ashfaq, was apprehended on Thursday using human and technical intelligence.
Details of the Incident
According to the First Information Report (FIR) lodged by Muhammad Usman, the son of the deceased Muhammad Mushtaq, the family resides in a three-storey house in Muhallah Shah Khalid, Dhoke Syedan. Usman, a 27-year-old bike driver, stated that he lived with his parents on the ground floor, while his uncle Ashfaq also occupied a room on the same floor. Another uncle, Muhammad Tahir, lived on the first floor.
On the night of June 20, 2026, Ashfaq began arguing with Tahir over a mobile charger. The dispute escalated into a scuffle. When the victims father, Muhammad Mushtaq, intervened to stop the fight, Ashfaq turned on him, pushing him to the ground. In a fit of rage, Ashfaq then struck his brother with an axe, causing fatal injuries.
Police Action and Investigation
Police officials confirmed that Ashfaq was arrested after a thorough investigation involving both human intelligence and technical surveillance. The weapon used in the crime has been recovered, and further interrogation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events.
The deceased, Muhammad Mushtaq, was identified as the elder brother of the suspect. The FIR was registered at R A Bazaar police station, and legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused.
