ISLAMABAD: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) reported on Wednesday that workers' remittance inflows rose by 9.21 percent to $38.1 billion during the first eleven months of fiscal year 2025-26. The country received inflows of $38.109 billion from July to May 2025-26, compared to $34.892 billion in the same period of FY2024-25, marking a significant growth of 9.21 percent.
Year-on-Year and Month-on-Month Growth
On a year-on-year basis, workers' remittances increased by 15.35 percent in May 2026, reaching $4.251 billion, up from $3.685 billion in May 2025. Meanwhile, month-on-month, remittances surged by 20.18 percent in May 2026 compared to $3.537 billion recorded in April 2026, indicating a robust upward trend.
Major Sources of Remittances
During May 2026, the largest inflows originated from Saudi Arabia ($1.025 billion), followed by the United Arab Emirates ($1.0066 billion), the United Kingdom ($645.5 million), and the United States ($349.8 million). These four countries collectively contributed a substantial portion of the total remittances, highlighting the strong diaspora engagement from these regions.
The steady increase in remittances underscores the resilience of overseas Pakistani workers and their continued support for the national economy. The SBP's data reflects positive momentum, which is expected to bolster foreign exchange reserves and provide stability to the balance of payments.
