On Monday, the National Assembly approved 135 demands for grants for various ministries, divisions, and departments for the financial year 2026-27, while rejecting 587 cut motions tabled by opposition members. Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb moved the demands, which were subsequently passed by the house.
Key Allocations for Cabinet, Defence, and Security
The approved allocations included Rs 709,505,000 for the Cabinet, Rs 5,941,454,000 for the Cabinet Division, and Rs 63,516,151,000 for Development Expenditure of the Cabinet Division. The house also granted Rs 1,796,674,000 for Emergency Relief and Repatriation, Rs 22,577,544,000 for Atomic Energy, and Rs 2,357,387,000 for the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority.
In defence-related allocations, the largest single grant of Rs 3,000,000,000,000 was approved for Defence Services. The Defence Division received Rs 17,100,707,000, the Defence Production Division got Rs 1,140,055,000, and the Airports Security Force was allocated Rs 21,650,713,000. Additionally, Rs 17,582,031,000 was granted for Federal Government Educational Institutions in Cantonments and Garrisons.
The house approved Rs 298,051,893,000 for Combined Civil Armed Forces, Rs 10,902,500,000 for Development Expenditure of Defence Division, Rs 979,840,000 for Defence Production Division, and Rs 1,355,823,000 for the National Counter Terrorism Authority. The Intelligence Bureau Division received Rs 22,960,644,000.
Public Service, Governance, and Civil Administration
In the public service and governance sector, Rs 142,694,000 was granted for Naya Pakistan Housing Development Authority, while Rs 895,499,000 and Rs 921,203,000 were approved for the Prime Minister’s Office (Internal and Public), respectively. The National Disaster Management Authority received Rs 1,048,376,000, and the Board of Investment was allocated Rs 858,109,000.
The house approved Rs 199,842,000 for the Prime Minister’s Inspection Commission, Rs 952,481,000 for the Special Technology Zone Authority, Rs 205,225,000 for the National Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Financing Terrorism Authority, and Rs 250,225,000 for the Cannabis Control and Regulatory Authority.
For civil services and administrative institutions, Rs 10,177,181,000 was approved for the Establishment Division, Rs 1,473,723,000 for the Federal Public Service Commission, Rs 3,514,750,000 for the National School of Public Policy, Rs 488,768,000 for the National Security Division, and Rs 2,087,757,000 for the Civil Services Academy.
Commerce, Infrastructure, and Economic Affairs
In the commerce and infrastructure sectors, the house approved Rs 27,909,940,000 for the Commerce Division, Rs 354,958,000 for the Communications Division, Rs 36,137,389,000 for Other Expenditure of the Communications Division, and Rs 25,536,726,000 for Pakistan Post Office Department.
Economic affairs allocations included Rs 985,301,000 for the Economic Affairs Division, Rs 14,026,000,000 for its miscellaneous expenditure, Rs 1,329,976,000 for the Privatisation Division, Rs 410,290,000 for Development Expenditure of the Privatisation Division, Rs 89,000,000 for Development Expenditure of the Commerce Division, and Rs 9,584,220,000 for the Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Division.
The house also approved Rs 5,660,518,000 for the Finance Division, Rs 9,873,311,000 for other expenditure of the Finance Division, Rs 14,914,495,000 for the Controller General of Accounts, Rs 1,162,064,393,000 for Superannuation Allowances and Pensions, and Rs 2,504,467,460,000 for Grants, Subsidies and Miscellaneous Expenditure.
Education, Health, and Social Safety
In education and culture, Rs 42,748,356,000 was approved for the Federal Education and Professional Training Division, Rs 28,411,490,000 for its development expenditure, Rs 66,432,063,000 for the Higher Education Commission, Rs 1,092,300,000 for NAVTTC, Rs 7,900,510,000 for Development Expenditure of the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission, and Rs 2,604,635,000 for National Heritage and Culture Division.
Health sector funding included Rs 37,221,767,000 for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Division, and Rs 16,064,500,000 for its development expenditure. The house approved Rs 22,231,937,000 for the National Food Security and Research Division, Rs 7,291,498,000 for the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council, and Rs 4,183,000,000 for development expenditure of the food security division.
The National Assembly also approved Rs 844,780,152,000 for Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Rs 806,272,000 for the Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Division, and Rs 14,390,094,000 for Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal.
Energy, Infrastructure, and Development Projects
In the infrastructure and energy sectors, the house approved Rs 578,837,216,000 for the Power Division, Rs 3,196,630,000 for its development expenditure, Rs 1,111,666,000 for the Petroleum Division, Rs 70,478,151,000 for the Railways Division, and Rs 1,201,001,000 for the Geological Survey of Pakistan.
Development allocations included Rs 46,000,000,000 for HEC development, Rs 19,580,000,000 for IT and Telecom development, Rs 55,251,070,000 for Water Resources development, Rs 27,626,340,000 for Planning development projects, and Rs 40,657,870,000 for Railways capital outlay.
The house further approved Rs 94,714,562,000 for federal miscellaneous investments, Rs 231,085,880,000 for other development expenditure, Rs 2,359,678,000 for capital outlay on federal investments, Rs 169,210,378,000 for development loans and advances, and Rs 2,300,000,000 for external development loans and advances.
Other Notable Allocations
Foreign affairs allocations included Rs 5,012,472,000 for the Foreign Affairs Division, Rs 63,159,765,000 for Foreign Missions, and Rs 3,735,457,000 for the Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Division.
In law and justice, Rs 11,123,389,000 was approved for the Law and Justice Division, Rs 7,739,738,000 for the National Accountability Bureau, Rs 1,847,581,000 for District Judiciary (ICT), Rs 354,570,000 for Federal Judicial Academy, Rs 1,127,148,000 for Federal Shariat Court, Rs 2,403,000,000 for development expenditure of the Law and Justice Division, and Rs 322,355,000 for the Council of Islamic Ideology.
The house also approved Rs 11,014,503,000 for Information and Broadcasting Division, Rs 15,897,550,000 for its miscellaneous expenditure, Rs 4,439,540,000 for Development Expenditure of Communications Division, Rs 659,252,000 for development expenditure of the Information and Broadcasting Division, Rs 15,973,576,000 for the Science and Technology Division, and Rs 22,495,417,000 for IT and Telecommunication Division.
