Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Irrigation Riaz Khan on Thursday directed officials to expedite work on the Jabba Dam Project in Khyber district, stressing the need to complete the strategically important scheme within the stipulated timeframe. The directive was issued during a high-level review meeting attended by Secretary Irrigation Abid Wazir, the project director, consultants, the contractor, engineers and other departmental officials.
Project Progress and Mobilization
The minister was briefed on the project’s progress, ongoing construction activities and the implementation schedule. Officials informed the meeting that all essential machinery, equipment and technical resources had been deployed at the site, while engineering teams and construction staff had been fully mobilised to ensure uninterrupted progress. The meeting was told that work was continuing on key components of the project, including foundation treatment, the spillway, tunnel excavation and concrete structures, with construction being carried out in accordance with approved engineering specifications and quality standards.
Minister's Directives
Riaz Khan instructed the department, consultants and contractors to accelerate the pace of work to ensure the dam becomes operational at the earliest. He said the provincial government attached high priority to the project because of its expected contribution to water resource management, agricultural development, groundwater recharge and the socio-economic uplift of local communities. The minister also directed officials to remove administrative, financial and technical bottlenecks on a priority basis, assuring them that the government would ensure the timely release of funds and provide all necessary institutional support for the uninterrupted execution of the project.

He reaffirmed the Irrigation Department’s commitment to completing major water infrastructure schemes across the province on schedule while maintaining high standards of quality, transparency and efficiency.
