Saudi Lab Gains Global Recognition for Equine Disease Testing
Saudi Lab Gets Global Nod for Equine Testing

The National Center for the Prevention and Control of Plant Pests and Animal Diseases has reached a significant milestone. Its animal health laboratory in the Riyadh region has gained international recognition from 33 countries. This includes 27 European Union member states, the United States, Japan, and several Gulf nations. The lab is now authorized to conduct testing for equine diseases associated with cross-border movement of horses.

Milestone for Saudi Laboratory Standards

This achievement underscores the Kingdom’s advanced capabilities in laboratory operations. It strengthens Saudi Arabia’s role in regulating the movement, import, and export of horses. The recognition also supports the country’s presence in local and international equestrian competitions. The accreditation is based on a reliable laboratory system that follows precise procedures and delivers high-quality outputs. This improves testing efficiency and ensures results meet top international standards.

Development Efforts from 2021 to 2025

The recognition reflects a comprehensive development initiative led by the center from 2021 to 2025, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency on Monday. This progress is further demonstrated by enabling horse exports with approved national certificates. It underscores the center’s expertise in diagnosing diseases linked to international equine movement. These efforts align with Saudi Vision 2030 goals to develop the livestock and equestrian sector and boost the Kingdom’s global presence.
