Following the Iran war, the government significantly increased petrol prices, citing the Strait of Hormuz blockade. Weekly price hikes eventually pushed petrol to an all-time high of Rs458 per litre. Now, after almost three months, international oil prices have fallen considerably, and the government should pass this relief on to the public.
Current Prices Remain High Despite Global Drop
It is worth noting that current petrol prices remain higher than pre-war levels due to repeated increases in the petroleum levy. The authorities should review fuel pricing policies and ensure that consumers benefit from declining global oil prices.
