Pakistan Reduces Petrol, Diesel Prices by Rs6, Rs6.80

The federal government has reduced the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel by Rs6 per litre and Rs6.80 per litre, respectively. According to a press release issued by the Petroleum Division on Friday, the Government of Pakistan has revised the ex-depot prices of petroleum products for the next week, effective from May 23, 2026.

Following the decrease, petrol will slide to Rs403.78 per litre from the existing Rs409.78 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) will go down to Rs402.78 per litre from the existing Rs409.58 per litre. Petrol is mostly used in private transport, small vehicles, three wheelers and two-wheelers, while high-speed diesel is mainly used in the heavy transport sector. The new prices will be effective from today (Saturday) till further revision.

Notably, for the last week ended May 22 also, the federal government had reduced petrol and high-speed diesel prices by Rs5 per litre each. However, for the week ended May 15, the government had raised petrol and high-speed diesel prices by Rs14.92 and Rs15 per litre, respectively. On March 6, the federal government announced a historic increase of Rs55 per litre in petrol and diesel prices. Following the increase, the price of petrol rose to Rs321.17 per litre from Rs266.17 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) climbed to Rs335.86 per litre from Rs280.86 per litre.

Again on April 2, the federal government further increased the prices of petrol and HSD by Rs137.23 per litre and Rs184.49 per litre, respectively. Following the increase, the price of petrol was raised to Rs458.5 per litre, while high-speed diesel gone to Rs520.35 per litre. However, after a day, the government had slashed the petroleum levy on petrol by Rs80 per litre and brought the price of petrol down to Rs378 per litre. On April 10, the federal government had reduced the prices of HSD and petrol by Rs134.81 per litre and Rs11.83 per litre, respectively. However, again on April 24, the government had jacked up the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel by Rs26.77 per litre each. Similarly, on April 30 also the federal government raised petrol and high-speed diesel prices by Rs6.51 and Rs19.39 per litre, respectively.
