Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday expressed satisfaction over the record remittances of $4.3 billion sent by overseas Pakistanis during May 2026. In a statement, he commended the 20.2% month-on-month and 15.4% year-on-year growth in remittances, calling it a commendable achievement. The Prime Minister emphasized that the trust and positive contribution of overseas Pakistanis to the national economy are invaluable assets.
Earlier, the State Bank of Pakistan reported that workers' remittances reached $4.3 billion in May 2026. The inflows increased by 20.2% month-on-month and 15.4% year-on-year. Cumulatively, remittances rose by 9.2% to $38.1 billion during July-May FY26, compared to $34.9 billion in the same period last year.
The major sources of remittances in May 2026 were Saudi Arabia ($1,025 million), the United Arab Emirates ($1,006.6 million), the United Kingdom ($645.5 million), and the United States ($349.8 million).
