HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) has formally requested the Hyderabad police to register a First Information Report (FIR) against a serving Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for allegedly stealing electricity for domestic use. The move comes as part of HESCO's ongoing crackdown on power theft in the region.
Illegal Connections Severed
On Sunday, a HESCO team disconnected multiple illegal connections at the residence of DSP Syed Saeed Muhammad Shah, located in Muslim Society Qasimabad. These connections were directly hooked to an electricity pole, bypassing the official metering system. The operation was led by Executive Engineer Asad Pirzada of the Qasimabad Subdivision.
Formal Complaint Lodged
In a letter addressed to the Station House Officer (SHO) of Qasimabad police station, a Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of HESCO requested the registration of an FIR against the DSP. The complaint highlighted that Shah's house had also defaulted on payment of Rs1.268 million in arrears to HESCO. The company is now seeking legal action to recover the dues and penalize the official for the unauthorized usage.
This incident underscores the ongoing challenges in combating electricity theft in Pakistan, where even law enforcement personnel have been implicated in such illegal activities. HESCO has vowed to continue its drive against power theft, regardless of the perpetrators' status.
