Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi has imposed a comprehensive ban on the entry of commercial vehicles that lack valid driving licenses, fitness certificates, or functional front and rear lights into the provincial capital. The decision was announced on Friday as part of a stringent road safety initiative.
Strict Enforcement at Entry Points
According to a spokesman for the CTO, only commercial vehicles whose drivers possess valid driving licenses will be permitted to enter the city. Special checking and general hold-up operations have been launched at all entry and exit points to ensure compliance with traffic regulations. The relevant Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) will personally supervise the crackdown against traffic violations.
Action Against Uncovered Loads
The spokesman further stated that strict action would also be taken against loader tractor-trolleys transporting sand, soil, and other construction materials without protective tarpaulin covers. This measure aims to prevent debris from falling onto roads, which can cause accidents and environmental hazards.
Zero-Tolerance Policy
CTO Shirazi announced a zero-tolerance policy against commercial vehicles operating with high-beam headlights, non-functional rear lights, or without valid fitness certificates. He emphasized that there would be no compromise on the protection of citizens' lives and property. The enforcement measures are being implemented to improve road safety and reduce the number of accidents in the city.
Document Requirements for Drivers
The CTO directed commercial drivers to keep their driving licenses, fitness certificates, and other required documents with them at all times. He warned that no leniency would be shown in cases of traffic law violations. The crackdown is part of a broader effort to enhance road safety and ensure that all vehicles operating in Lahore meet legal standards.
