The federal government has announced plans to launch a doorstep passport delivery service across Pakistan, aiming to make passport collection more convenient and efficient for citizens. The decision was reviewed during a meeting chaired by Director General Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa in Islamabad, where officials assessed progress on a dedicated digital application being developed to facilitate the service. Standard operating procedures (SOPs) for passport delivery were finalized during the session, paving the way for implementation to provide applicants with a streamlined and hassle-free experience.
Reforms and Processing Time Reduction
This initiative follows a high-level meeting held on April 30, chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, during which a series of reforms to modernize the passport issuance system were approved. Officials confirmed that the processing time for normal passports has been reduced from 21 days to 14 days as part of ongoing efforts to improve service delivery. The government also reviewed measures to strengthen the planned doorstep delivery service, focusing on ensuring timely and efficient home delivery of passports.
Cashless System and Anti-Corruption Measures
As part of broader reforms, authorities have decided to introduce a fully cashless system at all passport offices within 15 days. This move is intended to enhance transparency, simplify payments, and curb the influence of intermediaries commonly referred to as the "agent mafia." By eliminating cash transactions, the government aims to reduce opportunities for corruption and streamline the payment process for applicants.
Future Plans and Institutional Strengthening
The meeting also reviewed progress on the proposed Business Passport category and discussed plans to establish a dedicated Passport Authority. This authority is expected to further strengthen institutional capacity and improve immigration and passport services across the country. These reforms are part of a broader effort to modernize Pakistan's passport system and enhance citizen convenience.
