Canadian actor Hudson Williams could not contain his excitement upon learning that his Heated Rivalry co-star Connor Storrie had received his first-ever Primetime Emmy nomination. The heartfelt response came as Williams greeted fans during Paris Fashion Week, outside his hotel ahead of the Balenciaga fashion show.
Fan Breaks the News
As Williams walked past a group of admirers, one fan called out: "Did you see that Connor got the Emmy nomination?" Williams replied, "Did he?" before gasping. "Oh my God. I haven't seen anything. I'm so happy for him." The spontaneous reaction was captured on video and quickly circulated online.
Storrie was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his turn as host of Saturday Night Live earlier this year. This marks his first Emmy recognition and his first major awards nomination overall.
Ineligibility of Heated Rivalry
Although Heated Rivalry became one of television's breakout hits, it was ineligible for Primetime Emmy consideration because it was produced as a Canadian original rather than a qualifying US co-production. Williams has long been one of Storrie's biggest supporters. Following Storrie's emotional Russian-language monologue in the fifth episode of Heated Rivalry, Williams praised his co-star on Instagram, writing: "Give my baby that weighty golden winged woman holding the atom statue already," referencing the Emmy statuette.
Storrie's SNL Achievement
Although Storrie ultimately wasn't eligible for an Emmy for Heated Rivalry, his acclaimed performance as host of Saturday Night Live earned him a nomination instead. According to the Television Academy, he was the only host from the show's 51st season to receive an acting nomination, despite several hosts being submitted for consideration.
Williams made a surprise appearance during Storrie's SNL episode in February, joining him in the "Ice Skating" sketch before later returning to help introduce a performance by musical guests Mumford & Sons. The cameo delighted fans of the pair, whose on-screen chemistry in Heated Rivalry helped turn the series into a global phenomenon.
Storrie Reacts to Nomination
Storrie later reacted to the honour in a statement, calling the nomination "incredibly surreal." He said: "SNL was such a 'pinch me' moment in my career. It was a formative part of my life growing up, so to be recognized by the Academy for hosting feels incredibly surreal. I'm so grateful to everyone who made that night possible."
Upcoming Reunion
The co-stars are expected to reunite later this month as production begins on the second season of Heated Rivalry. Until then, Williams' spontaneous celebration of his friend's achievement has given fans yet another glimpse of the close off-screen friendship that has become almost as beloved as their on-screen partnership.
