Heatstroke Risk Escalates for Outdoor Workers in Islamabad
With temperatures reaching extreme levels during the ongoing summer season, labourers, traffic police officers, vendors and other outdoor workers face serious health risks from heatstroke. Ayesha Iqbal, a resident of Islamabad, has drawn attention to this growing threat through a letter published in a newspaper.
Heatstroke is a life-threatening condition caused by prolonged exposure to intense heat and dehydration. Its symptoms include dizziness, headaches, nausea, confusion and loss of consciousness. Without prompt treatment, it can lead to severe complications or even death.
Lack of Awareness Compounds the Danger
Unfortunately, many people remain unaware of these dangers. Iqbal emphasizes that the government, health authorities and media should launch awareness campaigns to educate the public about preventive measures. Easy access to drinking water, shaded rest areas and emergency medical services should also be ensured, particularly for outdoor workers.
Iqbal requests the publication of her letter to raise awareness and encourage timely action on this important public health issue. She also notes a robbery FIR registered after an eight-day delay, highlighting broader administrative concerns.
