A female doctor at the Provincial Civil Hospital in Quetta sustained severe injuries on Saturday after a hospital employee allegedly threw acid on her, according to police reports. The doctor suffered extensive burn injuries to her face, chest, legs, and other body parts. Officials stated that she received initial treatment at the Civil Hospital before being transferred to a private facility. Arrangements were made to airlift her to Karachi via air ambulance. Hospital sources indicated that approximately 70 percent of her body was affected by the acid.
Police Action and Suspect Neutralized
The suspect, who committed the act, fled the hospital after the attack. Police traced him to an area where he was attempting to escape by bus. When law enforcers asked him to surrender, he opened fire on the police party. In the ensuing exchange of fire, the accused was killed. DIG Quetta Imran Shaukat confirmed, “The accused was killed in a police encounter while attempting to escape from Quetta by bus.”
Government Response and Transfer to Karachi
On the special directives of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, the injured doctor was shifted to Karachi to ensure access to high-quality and advanced medical facilities. Sarfraz Bugti emphasized that her health progress must be closely monitored and the government kept continuously informed. The victim was transported via Peoples Air Ambulance, accompanied by expert doctors and specialized medical staff. The humanitarian mission was led by Captain Ali Azad, ensuring continuous medical supervision during the transfer. In Karachi, she will be treated under the care of leading medical specialists.
Government Commitment to Justice and Support
Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti stated that the Balochistan government is assuming full responsibility for the victim’s treatment, rehabilitation, and welfare, deploying all available resources for her recovery. He stressed that providing the best possible medical facilities is the government’s foremost priority and that no negligence will be tolerated. He instructed authorities to remain in constant contact with the victim’s family, offering them every possible assistance, facilitation, and guidance. The Chief Minister described the acid attack as a tragic, inhumane, and socially unacceptable act, noting that the perpetrator has already met his fate. He reaffirmed that the rule of law will not be compromised, and those involved in violence, harassment, or crimes against women will face the strictest punishment under the law. He declared that there is no place in Balochistan for elements involved in crimes against women, and the government is determined to safeguard women’s dignity, rights, and protection. CM Sarfraz Bugti expressed solidarity with the victim and her family, praying for her swift recovery, and assured that the government will provide justice, security, and full state support.
