The District Health Officer (DHO) of Hyderabad, Dr Pir Ghulam Hussain, has called upon the public to ensure that individuals bitten by dogs or other animals receive immediate vaccination by visiting an Anti Rabies Center or a hospital. In a statement released on Saturday, he emphasized that rabies is a life-threatening condition but can be effectively treated if timely medical intervention is ensured.
Immediate Steps After a Bite
Dr Hussain advised that the wound of a bitten person should be washed thoroughly with water and soap for at least 15 minutes, followed by prompt vaccination. He stressed that this simple measure can significantly reduce the risk of rabies infection.
Availability of Anti-Rabies Vaccines
The DHO informed that anti-rabies vaccines are available 24 hours a day at multiple healthcare facilities across Hyderabad. These include RHC Tandojam, Government Hospital Qasimabad, Government Hospital Shah Bhitai, Government Hospital Kohsar, Government Hospital Paretabad, Government Hospital Phuleli, and Hazrat Bibi Hospital Latifabad.
For Category III bites, which are considered more dangerous, vaccines are available at Liaquat University Hospital, Qasimabad, and Latifabad. Dr Hussain urged the public not to neglect bites from dogs or any other animals and to seek immediate medical treatment.
In a separate note, tribute was paid to the legendary singer Mehdi Hassan, known as Shahenshah-e-Ghazal.
