Dense Fog Shuts Key Punjab Motorways: M-3, M-4, M-5 Sections Closed for Safety
Fog Closes Major Punjab Motorways, Travel Advisory Issued

Dense fog has once again descended over large areas of Punjab, severely disrupting road travel and prompting the immediate closure of several critical motorway sections. The blanket of fog, drastically reducing visibility, has led authorities to take precautionary steps to protect the lives of commuters and prevent accidents.

Major Motorway Sections Shut Down

According to an official spokesperson from the Motorways Central Region, the closures are extensive. Motorway M-3 has been closed between the Jaranwala and Darkhana interchanges. On Motorway M-4, traffic has been halted on two stretches: from Pindi Bhattian to Abdul Hakeem and from Gojra to Abdul Hakeem.

The disruption extends to the southern parts of the province as well. Sections of Motorway M-5 from Multan to Zahir Pir and from Multan to Sukkur have also been closed due to the dangerously low visibility caused by the persistent fog.

Authorities Issue Stern Safety Warning

The motorway spokesperson emphasized that these closures are a necessary measure to safeguard lives and property. A specific warning was issued against lane violations in such conditions, which are known to significantly increase the risk of catastrophic, multi-vehicle pile-ups.

To minimize risk, commuters are strongly advised to:

  • Strictly observe lane discipline.
  • Plan journeys, where possible, during daylight hours.
  • Use fog lights and drive at reduced speeds.
  • Maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.
  • Avoid all unnecessary travel until conditions improve.

Authorities have indicated that travel is generally safer between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm during this foggy season when visibility tends to be better.

Immediate Assistance Available for Stranded Motorists

For drivers who find themselves in difficulty or require assistance, the Motorway Police have reiterated the availability of their helpline. Motorists can seek immediate help by calling 130. The public is urged to heed all official advisories and exercise extreme caution until the fog clears, ensuring their own safety and that of others on the road.
