A 38-year-old woman died after allegedly jumping from the 13th floor of a commercial building at Mall of Imarat in Islamabad on Thursday, according to police. The deceased, identified as Marium Malik, was a resident of Jinnah Gardens and a mother of three. Her family reported to the police that she had been experiencing prolonged distress related to domestic issues. She had been married for around 10 years and was a homemaker, while her husband works as a property dealer.
Possible Financial Distress
Sources claimed that the woman had reportedly incurred financial losses through online trading, which may have contributed to her distress. Police, however, deny these claims.
Sequence of Events
According to investigators, Marium reached the mall alone using a motorcycle ride-hailing service and arrived on the 13th floor at approximately 1:04pm through the lift. CCTV footage reviewed by police allegedly shows her walking around the area several times before approaching the edge. Investigators said she then climbed onto a stack of chairs and tables that had reportedly been placed there due to rain and jumped from the building.
Rescue officials and police personnel reached the scene shortly afterwards and found her dead. The body was shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a post-mortem examination.
No Personal Belongings Found
Police said no mobile phone, identification documents or personal belongings were recovered from the scene. Family members later confirmed that she had left home without carrying any personal items. Her husband, father and brothers subsequently arrived to receive the body.
