Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Health Khaleeq ur Rehman on Thursday inaugurated a new Burns and Plastic Surgery Centre, a dialysis unit, and other upgraded healthcare facilities at the Medical Teaching Institution (MTI) Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC). The minister also opened a new outpatient department (OPD) and additional wards at the Institute of Kidney Diseases during his visit.
Government Commitment to Healthcare Expansion
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Khaleeq ur Rehman stated that the provincial government remained committed to strengthening teaching hospitals by expanding specialised healthcare services and improving the quality of patient care. He said the government was utilising available resources to enhance access to quality healthcare across the province and appreciated the efforts of hospital management, doctors, nurses, and support staff in improving medical services.
Burns Centre to Reduce Need for External Referrals
The minister noted that the establishment of the Burns and Plastic Surgery Centre would significantly improve treatment facilities for burn victims within the province and reduce the need for patients to seek specialised care elsewhere. He assured the hospital administration of the government’s continued support for further expansion of the facility.
Sehat Card Programme and Burn Treatment
Referring to the Sehat Card programme, Khaleeq ur Rehman said nearly Rs50 billion had been allocated for the initiative in the current fiscal year. He added that the inclusion of burn treatment under the scheme would be considered in consultation with relevant authorities.
Hospital Tour and Briefing
During the visit, the minister toured various hospital departments, met patients, and reviewed healthcare services. Director of the Burns and Plastic Surgery Centre Dr Taheemdullah briefed the minister on the institution’s progress, highlighting improvements in specialised burn care, reconstructive surgery, training, research, and rehabilitation services. He also called for greater public awareness and stronger preventive measures to reduce burn-related injuries.
