Woman Dies by Self-Immolation in Rawalpindi

An elderly woman died after setting herself on fire in the Jhangi Mohalla area near Muhammadi Mosque Lunda Market on Iqbal Road in Rawalpindi on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as 70-year-old Farhat Kazmi, wife of Syed Qasim Tirmazi. According to Rescue 1122 officials, she was reportedly suffering from depression and died under mysterious circumstances after catching fire.

Emergency Response and Police Investigation

Upon receiving a distress call, Rescue 1122 dispatched two emergency vehicles to the scene. Despite the quick response, the victim succumbed to her injuries. Rescue workers shifted the body to a local hospital for a post-mortem examination after completing necessary legal and police formalities at the site. The exact cause of the fire remained unknown, officials said.

Waris Khan police noted the incident in their daily diary as a case of suicide. According to the police report, a caller identified as Shahid informed the police via the emergency number 15. He stated that Farhat, aged between 65 and 70, was suffering from depression. On Wednesday, she sprinkled kerosene oil on herself and set herself on fire, dying on the spot. The police registered the incident as self-immolation and sought the post-mortem report.
