Five Children Die Mysteriously in Bannu, Health Board Formed

BANNU: Five children from a single family in the Takhti Khel area, tehsil Bakakhel, District Bannu, have died under mysterious circumstances over the past three weeks. The tragic incidents have prompted urgent investigations by the district administration and health authorities. Three more children from the same family are reported to be ill.

Medical Board Formed

Following directives from Deputy Commissioner Bannu Muhammad Fahim, District Health Officer Dr Zafar Iqbal Wazir has constituted a special medical board comprising senior doctors to thoroughly investigate all aspects of the incident and submit a detailed report. The medical board includes Dr Muhammad Arif, Dr Ataullah, Dr Muhammad Yasin, and Dr Muhammad Mehryar Khan. The team will examine the affected family's health, living conditions, and potential causes of the illness.

Joint Investigation Team

Meanwhile, a joint team from the Health Department and Halal Food Authority, led by local elders Malik Mamoon Khan Wazir and Chief Warden Civil Defence Masoom Wazir, visited the affected area. The team met the grieving family and collected samples of food, water, and other household items. Blood samples from the affected children and their close relatives have also been dispatched to laboratories for analysis.

Possible Poisoning

Some doctors familiar with the case have noted that the symptoms shown by the children closely resemble organophosphate poisoning. These toxic compounds, commonly found in agricultural pesticides and insecticides, can affect the nervous system, leading to seizures, breathing difficulties, and cardiac complications. Medical experts revealed that after the first death, the family was advised to undergo specialized blood and urine tests to identify the cause, but the recommendation was not immediately followed. Further post-mortems and laboratory analyses were suggested only after additional deaths occurred.

Local Beliefs

Some locals have attributed the tragedy to spiritual or supernatural causes, claiming the incidents began after a tree was cut and a wall was demolished at the house. However, authorities are focusing on scientific investigations to determine the exact cause of deaths.
