In a tragic incident in the Utmanzai area of Charsadda, militants identified as Fitna al-Khawarij have martyred a prominent religious scholar and former member of the provincial assembly from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), Sheikh Muhammad Idrees. The attack occurred this morning as Sheikh Idrees was traveling from his residence to a local madrassa.
Background of Violence
Prior to this incident, Fitna al-Khawarij has been involved in multiple attacks on religious seminaries and political figures. On July 21, 2025, the group shot and killed religious leader Pir Ibrahim in Charsadda. Similarly, on July 10, 2025, in the Shindai Mor area of Bajaur, ANP leader Maulana Khan Zeb was killed by the same militants.
Previous Attacks
On March 14, 2025, a suicide attack on a mosque in South Waziristan injured JUI's district amir, Maulana Abdullah Nadeem. Earlier, on February 28, 2025, a mosque in Akora Khattak was targeted, resulting in the martyrdom of JUI leader Hamid ul Haq Haqqani.
The ongoing violence underscores the persistent threat posed by militant groups in the region, targeting religious scholars and political leaders.
