The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) announced on Sunday that it has successfully arrested and repatriated four proclaimed offenders from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), who were wanted in connection with murder and fraud cases registered in Pakistan.
Details of the Operation
According to an official statement from the FIA, the arrests were made in Abu Dhabi through close coordination between Interpol Islamabad and Interpol Abu Dhabi. The four individuals were wanted by the Punjab Police in murder and fraud cases. After their arrest in Abu Dhabi, the suspects were transported to Lahore airport.
The FIA Immigration Lahore then handed over the suspects to the Punjab Police authorities. The cases against these individuals were registered in the Pakistani cities of Faisalabad and Sargodha. The FIA National Central Bureau (NCB) Interpol had issued Red Notices for their arrest, which facilitated the international operation.
Role of Interpol
Interpol is an inter-governmental organization comprising 196 member countries. It enables the sharing and access of data on crimes and criminals, providing technical and operational support. Each member country hosts an Interpol National Central Bureau, which connects its national law enforcement with other countries and the general secretariat through a secure global police communications network known as I-24/7, as per Interpol's website.
This is not the first time Pakistan's national investigation agency and Interpol have collaborated to bring back criminals who fled the country to avoid justice. The successful repatriation underscores the effectiveness of international cooperation in combating crime.
