Pakistan Commits to Proactive Regional De-escalation Efforts
Pakistan will continue to play a principled and proactive role in building bridges, guided by sincerity of intent and clarity of purpose, to achieve immediate de-escalation in the region. This firm commitment was articulated by Tahir Andrabi, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during his weekly media briefing in Islamabad today.
Diplomatic Outreach and International Engagement
Andrabi emphasized that Pakistan remains actively and constructively engaged with relevant regional stakeholders and beyond. The nation consistently advocates for:
- Immediate de-escalation of tensions
- Cessation of hostilities
- An irreversible path toward peaceful resolution
The Spokesperson highlighted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is personally leading diplomatic outreach efforts to promote dialogue and understanding among all concerned parties. These initiatives have received wider international acknowledgement, including recognition from United States leadership.
Furthermore, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Asaq Dar has maintained close and continuous robust engagement with counterparts across the region and beyond to further these peace-building efforts.
Media Responsibility and Diplomatic Discretion
Andrabi expressed concern over the circulation of speculation and unverified reports in certain media sections regarding regional developments, including claims about diplomatic exchanges and purported travel itineraries. He stressed that diplomacy during moments of heightened sensitivity requires:
- Discretion
- Patience
- Confidentiality
The Foreign Office Spokesperson urged all parties and media platforms to exercise responsibility, refrain from conjecture, and rely solely on official channels for accurate and timely information.
Strong Rejection of Indian Statements on Kashmir
Responding to questions about the Indian Ministry of External Affairs' reaction to Pakistan's response regarding the sentencing of Kashmiri Hurriyat leaders including Asiya Andrabi, the Spokesperson dismissed the Indian statement with contempt.
Andrabi asserted that India cannot conflate legitimate political dissent in pursuit of fundamental political rights with terrorism. This is an old bogey of India that subsumes every legitimate political rights movement into terrorism, he stated.
Criticism of India's Judicial Processes
Regarding India's judicial system, Andrabi noted that concerns about impartiality have been raised even by Indian judges themselves. He cited the example of the principal accused in the Samjhota Express bombing case, who confessed to the crime but was acquitted, raising serious questions about accountability and due process in India's judicial system.
The Spokesperson reiterated that Pakistan strongly condemns and unequivocally rejects the sentencing of prominent Kashmiri political leaders, describing the verdict as reflecting a pattern of political vendetta.
Response to Indian Diplomatic Rhetoric
Commenting on recent statements by India's External Affairs Minister, Andrabi characterized such undiplomatic rhetoric as betraying a deeper sense of frustration. When arguments run thin, invective appears to fill the gap, he observed.
The Spokesperson clarified that Pakistan does not subscribe to such megaphone theatrics, emphasizing that Pakistan's approach is anchored in restraint, decorum, and avoidance of rhetorical excesses.
