Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bokhari held a meeting with US Consul General in Lahore, Stetson Sanders, on Thursday. The discussions focused on mutual interests, cultural cooperation, and the Punjab government's ongoing public welfare and development initiatives.
US Consul Appreciates Punjab Government Initiatives
During the meeting, Consul General Stetson Sanders appreciated Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s initiatives aimed at promoting public welfare, culture, and the arts. He praised the provincial government’s efforts to establish the Punjab Film City and revive the theatre industry.
Prospects for Cultural Partnership
The two sides discussed prospects for developing a cultural partnership between American artists and the Alhamra Arts Council, as well as organizing joint cultural and artistic events in Lahore. Azma Bokhari briefed the U.S. Consul General on the flagship public welfare programmes launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Historic Initiatives for Women, Students, and Farmers
Bokhari stated that the Punjab government had introduced historic initiatives to improve the lives of women, students, and farmers across the province. She highlighted that construction of 170,000 houses is currently underway under the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” housing programme, enabling thousands of families to achieve their dream of home ownership.
Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation
Both sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation between the Punjab Information and Culture Department and the U.S. Consulate in Lahore in the fields of culture, arts, and creative industries. At the conclusion of the meeting, Azma Bokhari presented a commemorative souvenir to U.S. Consul General Stetson Sanders.
