Commissioner Hazara Fayaz Ali Shah and DIG Hazara Nasir Mahmood Satti conducted a detailed inspection of the routes for the main 9th Muharram procession in Haripur on Thursday. They reviewed comprehensive security and surveillance arrangements to ensure the peaceful observance of the religious event.
Central Control Room Briefing
During their visit to the Central Control Room at the Deputy Commissioner's Office, IT In-Charge Asma Tufail briefed the officials on the installation and monitoring of online cameras, drones, anti-drone guns, and other modern surveillance equipment. Deputy Commissioner Haripur Islahuddin and District Police Officer Shafiullah Gandapur also provided a detailed briefing on the district's security plan for Muharram-ul-Haram. The briefing covered technology-driven surveillance systems, CCTV networks, drone monitoring, command and control mechanisms, and real-time monitoring measures designed to maintain law and order.
Inspection of Routes and Sensitive Locations
The Commissioner and DIG inspected procession routes, sensitive locations, entry and exit points, security cordons, response points, and other key arrangements. They also met religious scholars, Shia community leaders, organizers of processions and religious gatherings, representatives of peace committees, and members of the business community. Discussions focused on promoting inter-sect harmony, social cohesion, mutual respect, and maintaining a peaceful atmosphere during Muharram.
Visit to Emergency Response Centre
The officials later visited the District Facilitation and Emergency Response Centre established in the main bazaar and met officials and staff of Rescue 1122 and the Health Department. They directed district administration and police officers to demonstrate professionalism, vigilance, and a strong sense of responsibility while further strengthening field command and operational preparedness. They emphasized the importance of continuous assessment of the security situation, intelligence-based monitoring, and maintaining the capability to respond swiftly to any untoward incident.
Role of Religious Scholars and Peace Committees
Speaking on the occasion, the officials said that religious scholars, peace committees, and Shia organizers were playing a vital role in maintaining peace and stability during Muharram-ul-Haram. They praised the efforts of religious leaders in promoting unity and brotherhood and acknowledged the contribution of peace committees in fostering trust and harmony among different schools of thought. They also appreciated the discipline, organizational capabilities, and close cooperation of procession organizers with law enforcement agencies, stating that adherence to the code of conduct and coordinated efforts among all stakeholders were essential for ensuring the peaceful observance of Muharram.
